Coney Island

Posted in NYC by Andrew Spender on August 15, 2009

Coney Island in Brooklyn is a special place. By special, I mean crazy, grubby, gaudy, exciting, wild, scary, seedy and all-together-brilliant. It’s the home of the Cyclone Roller Coaster, the Wonder Wheel, the World Hot Dog Eating Contest (68 hot dogs in buns in 10 minutes!) and Shoot the Freak. Yes, you read right; for a few dollars, you can shoot a freak. I love America.
Here’s a very short video of Kate riding The Cyclone.

Shoot the Freak. Need I say more?

The concession stands along the boardwalk offer anything that can be deep fried.

The Wonder Wheel and The Cyclone are landmarked by the US Government. This means they are protected from commercial redevelopment.
